4th mission Cambodia Part 2

The usual routine of our project after the surgery was to go into deeper areas to offer khatan. This time around Syariz chose a different province, 4 hours from Phnom Penh - next to Kampung Cham province; Thom in Chetil & one other place (haha i cannot remember the name as i write this). Its always a humble experience to go to these kampongs; it reminds one of the simple life one leads. The priorities are different with different goals. It is such a reminder of one to be humbled and of course syukur to what Allah has provide. It is a reminder to myself especially and being aware of who I am, where I go and what I do. May Allah see this as my deeds insha Allah.

As usual, my role will be the person who anaesthetize these kids; in short, the pain they have to go through is with me and Azmil! haha But I've refined my technique by applying local anaesthetic gel before poking them. I find that it reduces anxiety and a whole lot better experience for them. We do get the typical boys who would try to resist and escape from the process! 

That is part and parcel and a true reflection of our society at large. Some may face their challenge, some may dodge and some avoid altogether. Its a one of a kind experience and with the last few projects, all different experience. Alhamdulillah :) Would I do it again? Of course :) Some might vest in negativities for this; only those who wants to do it, will do it. The joy one cannot describe the peacefulness of mind. 

4th mission to Cambodia Part 1

Alhamdulillah, the istiqamah is real. I went for my 4th trip (biannually planned since 2017) to Cambodia. I must congratulate Syariz for continuing to make this project ongoing. I am morethan happy to support for each and every project in the future. We are lucky that Muslim Care Malaysia are happy to support this cause too. 

It was sort of reunion for those who went in the first trip back in August 2017. Anis, Aida and Ku Puan came again this time (of course with Mohsin) and Dato Azmil - my counterpart from Prince Court who brought his son to join the project. There were a number of SAS alumnis who followed and it was an interesting crowd. I really do not understand why most of them with the first impression thought that i came from MCKK? Hmmm.. hahaha Kak Ros from Annur was back to and she brought her colleague. I brought Arif, my srub nurse from OT and we had a Kota Bharu surgeon to join us this time.

And as usual, our first part of the project was to perform hernia ops in children in Hospital Beyond Boundaries. I must say the area around the hospital has developed markedly that one cannot really see the HBB building anymore. Around the hospital are factories and new built houses. HBB looked a bit jaded - time to refurbish and refresh the hospital? Maybe next project :) 

In each visit there will always be a challenge. This time around we had issues with power supply! because of the current drought, the electricity supply from the hydroelectric dams were interrupted - hence the usage of genset for the power supply. We had our fair share of blackouts and having to decide on how to use the power effectively - minimal yet safe condition for surgery. 

The next was the GA machine. Mak ai.. we had few issues with leak and it was an experience to manage and decide when we could start or stop. It did not deter me and Azmil to continue with the op but of course with safety consideration high on the list! Had to do few McGyver tricks to run the cases safely! Haha 

Only those who've been to missions like this will know what it feels and how satisfied one would be after finishing the tasks. It was a worthwhile experience and nothing beats the feeling when seeing the kids going back home and their long journey home after the surgery :) 

Biannual mission Cambodia 2019

Lai! Lai!

I am very honoured to be involved with this project with Syariz. This will be my forth mission, and the istiqamah is real. It has always been a fulfilling trip for me and perhaps the one that i look forward to each time. I have been questioned by sceptics and unappreciative individuals for my commitment but perhaps unless you do these things then only one can explain why one loves to do it repeatedly. 

Its not just about helping the needy but also my own muhasabah going into remote areas and looking into these kids eyes; poverty, sidelined and hope. 

Do contribute in ringgit and sen if you don't have the means to volunteer yourself. 

I will update the progress of this project as it reaches its time. 

Cambodia hernia HBB project

Merdeka this year I wasi n Cambodia again. This was the third installment of the project initiated by Syariz last year. Alhamdulillah, we have been consistently doing it for 6 months. The programme is simple, First 2 days in HBB ( Hospital Beyond Boundaries) to conduct charity surgeries. Then we'll be off to the deeps of kampungs to perform the sunathon programme.
It is a very fulfilling act. I enjoy doing this and I hope to remain m istiqamah to do this.
