Accidental run

We were in One Utama early this morning. Wifey initially planned to buy few IT stuff before lunch at Taman Tun. To my surprise , there was an event happening at the new wing lobby. It was a promotional stunt for the incoming KL marathon late June ; a 24 hours threadmill challenge ! I would have planned it with my group of friends if i had known it earlier ! It was the first of its kind in Malaysia and participants are encouraged to join in their bid to be in the Malaysia Book of Records !

Each participant was required to walk or run ; at a minimum speed of 5km/h ( which is truly walking phase) or run as much or as fast as they can for 5 minutes ! Easy isn't it ? Well , i queued up and had m fair share of a 5 minute run ! And walah... a certificate to prove my participation!! Hahaha not bad ah for an easy going sunday morning ! but 5 minutes was too short as i became a bit carried away while running on the threadmill!

We were supposed to buy a lot of things but it was halted by the typical sibling rivalry scenario ! Wifey thought of renting the small cute mini car stroller will make both the kids happy.. Unfortunately , both Qaisya and Dzaeff fought against each other for a ride ! Wifey thought one of them would settle down to be on the back seat but boy.. was she wrong ! Both of them cried and hackled each other to be in the driving seat ! hahahaha.. She spent most of the time trying to moderate but of course, it runs in the blood. None of them would settle for the second best ! hhahahahaha
P/S Somehow , the Dzaeff vs Qaisya episode reminded me of the MBvsMB tussle in Perak... :)

Congrats to the victors !

The Masters of Anaesthesia results were out today. Congratulations to my seniors who passed their part 2 and now certified Anaesthesia specialists !!! Tahniah !! Sepcial mention congrats to Shah ( a fellow anaesthetist blogger) as well! Continue blogging bro ; you are a specialist now !! Of course , to my Part 1 colleagues ; congratulations for passing and I know the burden is off !! Alhamdulillah...
And now.. it'll be my driving seat soon. In a year's time it will be my turn and watching them waiting for the results sent shivers to my spine !! Goosebumps all over.. takut seehh... kena start study nih.. hmm.. esok la.. hahahaha

And today.. was the RAMPASAN KUASA DAY !!! Behold and beware..
We are the final years now.. hahahaha

New Balance 15K 2009

Streamyx was down in BJ during the weekend therefore I was not as swift as before to update my latest activities ! In the midst of wifey's preparation for her viva ; I was busy with the kids but glad that i managed to squeeze in runs in the evening to maintain my runs..
We joined the New Balance 15K on Sunday ; a year after the gang stepped up on our runs. Last year , this run was the first upgrade from 10K. We've never done anything more before and I am glad this year most of the gang stepped up as a preparation for 21K and the full marathon end of June !
I was happy with my run this time. I didn't really time it but I reckon it was around 1 hr 35 minute"ish", A vast improvement from my sub-2 last year ! I guess the training helped and I was never tired or exhausted. My speed was good and I must say I am very happy. It was a hot race after 8am and there were only 2 water stations.
The route was good but I was prepared with the hilly route ! However , i succumbed to the mental blow when we had to run around the finishing line at the last 1km. MENTAL beb !! hahahahaha ingat dah nak habis ;I should have known better !! Hahahaha
Azad , Kamal , Wan Edrin , RUslan and Halim completed the race in their resepectable times. We have improved !! Kudos.. and I will post more photos when I have the time to upload them..
**********************************************
We were heading home when I heard the announcement by the MC requesting for any doctors around.. I was looking at Kamal and in turn , he looked back at me !! hahahaha Well , I waited if there was any other but then he repeated the call . I then volunteered myself to see what was wrong and apparently there was a lady who was looking ill with the St John's team and they did not know what to do next. I did felt like an important person then as i was escorted to the sick bay area. hehehehe
Nasib baik la I'm an anaesthetist and not eye doctor ke.. ( hahaha no offence !) and I examined her. I had to resort to the basic clinical examination skills because I had nothing else ( no BP cuff set too !! ) .Clinically she was alright , her limbs were cold but her pulse was fairly good. She was too exhausted especially with the weather and fairly stable. I was afraid if she had contracted heat stroke but alhamdulillah , after the oxygen therapy she looked better. Of course , being more than 50 ; a myocardial infarction cannot be ruled out therefore i suggested for them to go to the nearest hospital for an ECG and blood investigations just to confirm.
The moral of the story , doctors will never be out of job.. hahahaha

Burn out

Nowadays its a bit difficult for me to sit down and blog. Our hectic schedule and taking care of the kids had filled our time to the max. Being independent is a challenge and I must "tabik spring" my wife for her superhuman effort. She will be defending her ever dreaded thesis mid May as the last hurdle to pass before she can call herself a qualified Radiologist. Imagine , having 3 kids in the 4.5 years of postgraduate studies is no joke and alhamdulillah she has coped well so far. There were few moments when the bubble burst but somehow the patchwork worked remarkably. I suppose the motivation sped on upon looking the 3 wonderful kids that we have.
Since moving to BJ , I'm more close to my 2 kids. Wifey is taking 100% care of the youngest so its up to me to handle Dzaeff and Qaisya. I'm a beeter father now ; feeding , playing and putting them under.. ( to sleep lah !) I;ve learnt more about them and i guess they know me better now. They do inherit a lot of my traits eg my eating habits! Both are chocolate lovers and nothing less ; and of course when the food is black in colour regardless the taste , it is not our favourite !! Hahahaha
Dzaeff is not a big problem as he is soft hearted , he won't be disobedient for long as he will succumb in the end. Dzaeff can be sleazy and manipulative at times and that is why we call him the politician.Qaisya is different. She has temperaent and can be really really stubborn at times. That would be wifey's fault because this is definitely her trait !! HAHAHAHA However she can be really sweet at times and i've grown to miss her more nowadays. I must confess I was not keen to have daugthers and preferred sons. Now i know why there's always the daddy's girl tag! Qaisya comes to me when she is unhappy and that make me melt. She would really show her dissatisfaction or negative standings ; she's not afraid of wifey and with me..she knew she cannot mess around.
For all this , I must thank Allah for giving me the happiness that I have now. Alhamdulillah.

Things i receive on my email..

An invitation from a pissed off mother in law...

Qystiena's aqiqah

It was Qystiena's turn this time. Both her elder siblings were celebrated the same way and of course , she should not be treated less ! Mama held her aqiqah & taqniq in Taman Tun this morning. It was an event that she enjoy very much ; inviting both her marhaban groups to recite marhaban and sing nasyid for Qyst.

And of course.. the usual antiques of Daeff and Qaisya!!

Thank you very much for my friends who turned up for lunch !

Happy birthday to Papa !

We didn't plan this.. We thought it would be nice to surprise Papa when he gets back home.. Of course , Dzaeff was very enthusiastic about it !!

A nice Sunday

I was post call and everything was going according to plan. My call was not bad at all and I was fresh upon waking up. I initially thought I only had on engagement and I was taking my own sweet time.
It was not until 1130am when the red envelope on top of the tv caught my attention. I had a quick look and only then i remembered ! I had RSVP'd Siew Nee a long time ago ! I totally forgot about her wedding and urrghh.. wifey was still not back yet from Maks. I never thought of skipping it thus the kelam kabutness that ensued. I phoned Mama asking on her availability as I don't think I want to bring Dzaeff and Qaisya to the wedding. Luckily she was ok about it and in a huff and puff we got ourselves ready.
The card mentioned specifically 12pm sharp and i knew i will not be able to make it in time. But being Malaysians.. i estimated that people will be late and thank god ; when we arrived at about 1230pm; they have not started yet! Siew Nee looked wonderful and I guess this must be the happiest day in her life!
Met up few ex-IMU mates and it was nice catching up. It seemed like we were never away from each other as the conversation flow went smoothly without a glitch. I had my fun and of course , everybody adored Qystiena's punk hairstyle !!

We had another engagement which was supposed to be our only event that day .As the turn of events happened, we were very late in the true tradition of OT ( over-time). The kids were sleeping initially but I thought that I should just take them otherwise we would have been really late! I told Deeno I was following Nepal time which was about 4 hours behind..thus making me on time at 1pm . The food was good and I had my fair share of chicken rice. The company was good and it was good that i managed to introduce wifey to the wonderful guys and gals of OGKL. This was suppose to be an exercise so that i will have the SUPER-LICENSE in the future.. hehehehe ( to climb mountains la.. what were you thinking ?? )

Short notes like chedet

1.Its always palpitations and full-blown adrenaline ride doing paediatric cases. The problematic ones to begin with brings a lot of challenge. Mostly , their surgeries may not be as detrimental as how our GA ( General Anaesthesia ) can be. I'm glad i did this 1 month posting ; but maybe not adequate for me to say that I can do paediatric cases as a specialist. They can fail you instatenously and to remain calm at that very point of time ..macam mana nak jadi tak panic ? Hahahaha unless if you are on beta blockers or having parkinsonism l only then can one continue making a poker face when the baby desaturates to SPO2 50% !!

2.The seniors are busy studying for their finals soon and as the most senior batch ; we've like taken over their responsibilities for now.It has always been the tradition that way and another ascending step. I started my SMO call since last year because of acute shortage. I guess when I eventually pass my finals , doing the specialist call can be scary but I've chosen this path.. so just do it !

3. Selangor plays Kelantan tonight in the FA cup final and I'll miss it because I am oncall. It had been quite sometime since I last went to watch footie live and missing this one is a bummer ! It'll be interesting to flock Selangor and Kelantan fans together because it is the best ingredient recipe for disaster ! I'm sure to watch the game closely on TV..

4.I also realized that I do lots of soul searching ramblings like this... when I am on call !! Hahahahah

I like this one

hahaha... yeke..??
for all wives out there, please comment...
WIFE's DIARY
Sunday night - I thought he was acting weird. We had made plans to meet at a cafe to have some coffee. I was shopping with my friends all day long, so I thought he was upset at the fact that I was a bit late, but he made no comment.
Conversation wasn't flowing so I suggested that we go somewhere quiet so we could talk, he agreed but his mind was far away. I asked him what was wrong - he said, "Nothing." I asked him if it was my fault that he was upset. He said it had nothing to do with me and not to worry.
On the way home I told him that I loved him, he simply smiled and kept driving. I can't explain his behavior; I don't know why he didn't say, "I love u, too."
When we got home I felt as if I had lost him, as if he wanted nothing to do with me anymore. He just sat there and watched TV; he seemed distant and absent.
Finally I decided to go to bed. About 10 minutes later he came to bed. I decided that I could not take it anymore, so I decided to confront him with the situation but he had fallen asleep. I started crying and cried until I too fell asleep. I don't know what to do. I'm almost sure that his thoughts are with someone else (another woman). My life is a disaster.

Sungai Congkak outing

I did not plan this trip until Saturday evening when it just came across my mind. I have always wanted to bring the family for an outdoor activity but never had the chance to do s. I did plan a few times but it did not materialize due to multiple factors. This time around I was determined to make it happen as I want to expose my kids to nature.. and let them enjoy what I adore most in life !!
Somehow , Fiqar passed by my house yesterday evening and I invited him to join me.The more the merrier !! Initially i thought Sg Gabai was a good idea but after browsing through the internet last night , I discovered that it had lots and lots of stairs !! I was looking somewhere which was more family-friendly and I figured that Sungai Congkak maybe the best place for us. Having 3 small kids will not be an easy task to handle !
We moved from BJ at830am and by miracle arriving at campsite by 930am ! I guess early breezy Sunday morning traffic contributed to our early arrival.

We brought lots of food ; I bought roti canai and fiqar had nasi lemak and bihun goreng on top of the biscuits and drinks that we brought ! We were in zone 3 and the place is certainly nice and condusive. The management tryto keep the area clean and it was evident ! We set up our camp just next to the river and afte a quick breakfast..APA LAGA.. mestilah nak terjun mandi sungai !!! How can one resist ???

bihun for breakfast

Hello Umi !

my turn !!

It was fun to see Dzaeff , Ilhan and Laila enjoying themselves. Something got into Qaisya and she was hesitant to step on the sand ! I dunno what she was "geli" about ! Qystiena was extremely good today as she did not cry during the whole outing ! She even enjoyed having her feet dipped into the river ! The water was cold butrefreshing. Eventhough the kids were up I was still in and enjoying myself. I guess , if it was not for the snake which appeared by us we would have been in the water longer !

It was a good family outing and the kids simply love it ! I hope to do this more often as I find I should expose my children to my hobb as much as possible. It is a cheap getaway and at the same time enjoyable.. Jomla kawan2.. lain kali kita plan short trip lain !

Nurturing new habit

When the new Education Minister made the findings known on Saturday morning , we didn't know about it until the 8 o'clock news that night ! Only 3% of Malaysians are reading and though it improved from a mere 1% from 10 years before ; it is not in concordance with what a developed country citizens should be doing.
I have always liked reading ; somehow after mama brought us to the TTDI children's library when I was six ; i fell in love with reading. I walkdto the library on my own on weekends to borrow new books and it went on till I was 12. I would go and borrow the maximum number of books and finish reading it at home. The next day i am back to the library to get more! This was more obvius during the school holidays and just count how many books I would have gone through back to back during those days !

Therefore , we've decided to register Dzaeff and Qaisya with the Selangor State library ; the Shah Alam library since we are living nearby now. I can vividly remember my last visit to this library which was 21 years ago ! hahahaha I was representing my library then for chess friendly against the Shah Alam library boys. I remembered the library to be very spacious and big ! So different from the library in TTDi and I was impressed with their collection of books !!
On Saturday, it did not look as big as how it was 21 years ago. Mainly because.. I GREW !! Hahahaha But still , it is spacious and the youths around Shah Alam certainly is making it to good use.
The registration was fast ; nowadays they can snap a digital image of our picture to make things more efficient!( instead of preparing the passport size photos) It was not easy to coax Qaisya stay still but somehow we managed ! And I must say I am impressed that within 20 minutes ; we are new PPAS members and automatically eligible to borrow books ! Cepat giller.. Gone are the days where you have to wait for a week as part of the "PROCESSING" procedure !
It was a fresh Saturday morning outing and I hope to do it on weekly basis to inculcate the reading habit in them.. Insya Allah !!

macam register jadi ahli baru parti PAS pulak.. hahahaha

Possessed by Alan Wong

Something possessed me this morning ; I made another colleague possessed ! I still laugh at Basir's remark though ,"This was worst than my daughter !!"
Few mentioned that I may be too harsh . There were few who thought I was very direct and maybe it was time to do so. I would not like to reveal what happened on the blog as there are people who might get offended. By right , this blog is for me to write whatever I feel especially regarding things from MY POINT of view. However , i realized that blogs are also shareware and privacy can sometimes be interpreted invasive.
I have certain standards that I uphold and i reckon what I do during my daily work is fairly minimal. Therefore , anything less is unacceptable especially when it involves the safety and life of a patient. Primum De necere ; and that should be the core of our intention becoming a medical practitioner. I expect certain standards of care and when it is violated , automatically i am offended. I can be harsh and I guess my colleague took my remarks negatively. However I reckon what I said was not wrong and one should think carefully about one's doing. I don't get upset during worktime easily and if i do , it must be something really disturbing. Mcm TDM la pulak dak.. ahahaha
And as I've mentioned ; I realized my actions were very similar to a famous anaesthetic lecturer of mine during my medical school days !! I was scared of him but at the same time , i do hold my respect for him..

Xterra launched !!

The awaited Xterra challenge was officially unleashed today !! Certainly yummy for me to have a go at it. Well , i still can't swim well but i am damn interested to be a part of it just as I am with IRONMAN.
The option ? The relay event of course !! Swim-mountain bike - trail run !!! Now I am really looking forward for this race and to finish it with my colleagues will be an outstanding achievement. 10km may sound fairly near but trail running is different. eg.. Tambuyokon was just 14km away but my god.. the agony of reaching the top was the biggest challenge in my life ( besides wifey la.. hahaha )
Do you reckon I am game ??

P/s I've registered for the full monty this year..42km KL Marathon. It is either i am really putting myself to the limit or just too stressed out ?

Is it ?

For time and the world do not stand still.
Change is the law of life.
And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.

MY first atempt as a researcher

Alhamdulillah , I am thankful that my abstract was accepted for oral presentation in the incoming ASEAN anaesthesiologist congress in Sabah come July ! My prof was excited and really pleased. It was her aim that i qualify for the oral presentation for me to have a go at the 2009 MSA Young Investigator's Award. My chances ; well i can only prepare and do my best and lets just see what will happen !
Prof was so happy that she even gave me an external hard drive as a motivational present ( which i bought for her as well during the PC Fair on Saturday). This time around i do have another poster to be presented as well ! Hahaha i guess the 16 hours plastic case was worth it after all!! this poster will be my second after the first in last year's NCIC.

Orange run 2009

For the third year in succession , it was great to participate in the "happening" orange run at the Curve , Mutiara Damansara today. I did not prepare for this run as the last one month was really hectic ; juggling bukit Jelutong and the kids ; worse was last week as wifey was doing her job rom 4pm to 10pm ! I only manage to fit in a 7km run on the day when my OT was planned to start late.
I was at the starting line quite early and it was a surprise seeing Mahmud , an IJN cardiologist friend of ine to be there. His colleagues Rahal and azlina was thee to ; and adding Kamal means we had 4 cardiologists running in the event ! I guess of all people , they are the ones who should ead by example in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Azad , Ruslan and Halim were arund but i could not find them as we promised to meet up at the starting line ..which is impossible when there is a lot of runers getting ready to start !!!

I must say I was happy with my 11k run today. I managed a sub 1 hour ( betul2 sub.. hahaha ) The route was familiar and it helped in pacing my run. I was not tired and felt ok all the way ; i did not push myself though because i know i lacked practice. I dont want to end up with cramps do i? I guess on the next run ; i should try to push my lmit and see where i stand.. hehehehe Edrin did not join us but he was around to photograph us at the finishing line. His pics were excellent but I am still waiting for him to download it!
Majulah sukan untuk kesihatan dan negara !!

A day out which almost turn out to be total day out !!

Kirana managed to get seats for her family and mine to this wonderful "clown's intro to orchestra" with the MPO in KLCC today. I was excited for the kids because this will be the first time the kids will be exposed to live orchestra music !Wifey was on call and this was a perfect way to spend time with my kids. I didn't know what to expect in the beginning.

However , it nearly became a non reality as we were stuck in NKVE for about a hour ! It was a massive traffic jam and I was getting pissed off when we surpassed the 30 minute mark ! We were late and i didn't know if we could be there in time. We were late to arrive but luckily still able to catch the show and it was fun !! Dzaeff was making his own vocal comments while Qaisya seemed a bit reserved ; scared at times with the loud drum thumping.
Of course Dzaeff and Qaisya was happy to roam around in KLCC afterwards ; with Alana joining them in hand ! ( Dzaeff was very sporting to walk her around ! )

The new order

I'm still adapting to my new schedule of things. In SS2 , it was possible to sleep longer and go to work fairly close to starting a case. It was also convenient to pick up the kids and arrive home early ; fitting in my runs before Maghrib. Life was so easy then..
However , from Bukit Jelutong it is not possible to do that. I have to wake up extra early and get the kids ready to go to school. I have to leave home before 6.45am or it wil be nightmare at the Damansara toll junction. I am used to sleepig late and working up early this last 2 weeks is certainly taking its toll on me. I feel tired and if i am to be given a pillow , I'll just doze off ! Coffee doesn't really work for me and doing on calls is not really helping me to recover !
Wifey is really exhausted and I pity her at times when the kids decide to dirty and shackle the new home ! She becomes obsessive and kept mopping... hahaha budak2 ni.. With that , i have a new role now. As wifey maybe busy with the kids ; i am now officially the COOK !! hehehe.. I am happy doing it and it helps to relieve my stresses as well.. hehehe.. best jugak main masak2 ni..

Kecil kecil cili padi... menawan dunia !

Well done fellow Malaysian ! The pocketrocketman rules ! ( he's a blogger as well ah !) The moment all Malaysians have been waiting for ; a true world class sporting hero..
I am upmost impressed with the feat achieved by Azizul Hasni. Pure strength and going agaist all odd ; small frame and figure but amazingly fast.He was superb against the current champion ; and pushed him into stalemate ; the sudden death round and it was unfortunate for him not to win the gold.. Tapi dah puas hati dah !!! Cayalah bro !!
And i bet you.. Power ROOT Tongkat Ali will be lurking Azizul around the corner to make him the ambassador ! Endorsements on the way... :)

Life without the internet

I am cut off from the cyber world for the past 1 week.It felt different.. I guess I've depended so much on the net that i was a bit lost without it ! hahahaha.. FYI I've moved to BJ fulltime and hopefully today they will install the phone line at home smoothly. You never know about Telekom Malaysia ah.. so far , it looks impressive. I went to TM Point on Wednesday ; and Yesterday they called me up for the appointment. If everything goes alright , I should be online from home by tonight !!
Usually I'll browse after work , preferably after the kids are asleep. I will try to put up an entry on this blog if possible or i have anything in mind. Not doing that for the past 1 week was a bit funny to my usual routine.. but then again , I go to work earlier now . By 6.45am I am out of the house ; crossing the Fed H'way or NKVE and to Kelana Jaya to send my kids. By 730 I'[m at the hospital compound scourching for parking space which is getting more ridiculous nowadays ! ( that will be another blog entry ! ) I went back home late twice this week. I was one day on a CABG list and the second , Whipples list. Both ops had me done only by 8pm !! Waahh.. kalau kena bayar locum rate best jugak !
It has been a tiring week and hopefully I can rest fully this weekend bcoz I dont think I've recovered fully from my Mulu & Pinnacles trip !

Ramblings during Sunday oncall..

A lot of people around me had asked , why do i like to do running and mountain climbing? Both exhaust you more and you end up getting tired afterwards. More so with mountain climbing when each expedition would take few days with full exertion of energy ; what a weird holiday spent ? For eg , I came back on early Thursday morning ( 1am) and back to work with the Friday and Sunday being oncall !!! Not to mention , the objections you get from persons close to you.
I guess both activities are very individualised ; i don't have to go against anybody else except yourself. The only one you would want to prove to is yourself and nobody else. I prefer to run than playing football nowadays because I can be on my own during the whole activity unlike team sport events when there is a "forced" common goal which is to score and win !
Getting myself back to simple basic fitness is a bonus and it is a healthy option. ( Have you tried the Korean fitness test.. hehehe see how old are you ? ) With the current health hazards due to urban living lifestyle eg diabetes , hypertension , heart disease , being active this way is certainly the way to go.
During running or trekking , I would be in my own world ; left to run or walk alone. It is during this time I feel my mind goes free , really really free. Not that I have a lot of problems to think about but it is during this period i get solace and peace. I don't feel I am running away from my real world but its a relief to be back in nature . I've always felt myself closer to god during these activities ; the zikr that I vocalize literally and in me during moments of strain is certainly motivational.
Everybody have their own reasons doing things as a hobby. Few would prefer to just soak the wonders of technology and Lebowski. Few others would look for challenges and live the basic life. Moral of the story : JAUHI DIRI ANDA DARI DADAH !!

Mulu & Pinnacles trip

I haven't got the time to write up about my trip yet.. i'm oncall this weekend ; Friday and Sunday and i still have not recuperate fully.. mengantuk ahh buat GA.. hahaha
but I've posted few pictures here..which is memorable..

Mulu airport..

Mulu National Park before the climb..

Mulu Summit

boat ride to Camp 5..

Pinnacles view point. :)

Glad to be back

I looked at my last entry..and oh my ! I've left the blog for 2 weeks ! Fuiiyooo.. lama tak blog ! Why? well..
1. Hectic schedule with wifey and the new kid on the block
2.We are in the process of moving to BJ.. hence the non connectiveness..
3.I was away last week in Mulu National Park , Sarawak..

and now.. I'm back !! Hahahahaha
